报告内容摘要:
Bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) have exhibited promising applications in many fields such as aerospace and defense industries due to their unique mechanical properties. However, the poor room temperature (RT) ductility or plasticity of BMGs resulted from shear banding induced fast fracture has become the bottle-neck for limiting their practical engineering applications. Understanding shear banding and fracture behaviors is a key step toward improving the RT ductility of BMGs. The physical origin of shear banding and mechanism of fracture energy dissipation in BMGs are particularly focused on in this talk. In BMGs, it is demonstrated that the free volume softening plays a dominant role in the formation of shear bands, and fracture energy dissipates via competition between the shear transformation zone (STZ) and the tension transformation zone (TTZ).
