报告题目:Combustion Study with Synchrotron VUV Photoionization Mass Spectrometry

报告摘要:Molecular-beam mass spectrometry has been used for over 40 years to study the low-pressure flames to develop and test chemical kinetic mechanisms. Traditional quadrupole mass spectrometer with electron impact ionization is limited in its utility by fragmentation and electron energy resolution at chemically interesting ionization energies (6-14 eV). Single-photon ionization with time-of-flight mass spectrometry has been shown to overcome these disadvantages. However, the previous laser-based photoionization (PI) system has low photon fluxe (~1011 photons s-1) and narrow tuning range.

Recently a universal and selective method has been developed and successfully applied to identify intermediates and products formed from pyrolysis, low-pressure premixed flame and non-premixed diffusion flame. The method combines tunable synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) single-photon ionization technique with the molecular-beam mass spectrometry. The system is particularly well suited for the detection of polyatomic intermediates formed in molecular weight growth processes. Experimental results indicate the ability to detect both stable and radical species with excellent sensitivity and selectivity.

Besides combustion study, some new experimental methods combining the tunable synchrotron VUV photoionization have been developed recently. These new methods can be applied on studies of low-temperature plasma diagnostic, biomolecule, and drug analysis etc.
