报告内容摘要
Microtubules (MTs) play a central role in various cell mechanics problems of current interest. In this presentation, some physical phenomena of microtubule mechanics will be introduced, and several new elastic models developed recently will be presented to study microtubule mechanics problems. Among others, for example, critical pressure predicted by an orthotropic elastic shell model for buckling of microtubules under radial pressure is found to be in good agreement with recent experiments which cannot be explained by a previous isotropic model, and the present models give a plausible explanation for the observed length-dependent flexural rigidity of microtubules which has raised a debate in the literature. The results suggest that the elastic models have the potential to be used for studying mechanical behavior of microtubules in cell mechanics.
