报告内容摘要:
Nature offers gold standards and best solutions for bioengineers to surpass the limits of engineering approaches based on conventional disciplines. Meanwhile, micro- and nanoscale technologies are emerging as powerful tools for engineering microsystems at the scale and precision comparable to the natural systems. In this talk, I will present examples that utilize microscale technologies to build bio-mimetic systems such as: 1) 3D tissue assembly; 2) in vitro model for embryo development3) biomaterials with tunable variances in chemical, mechanical and structural properties that effectively mimic the anisotropy of native extracellular matrices. The bio-inspired microsystems presented here hold great promise for developing bio-mimetic materials, complex tissue substitutes and cell-based systems for bio-sensingand drug screening. In addition, the bio-inspired microsystems can also be used as physio/pathological model to provide greater insight into natural phenomena and processes.
