报告内容摘要:
Electro-mechanical transducers are of two categories. Sensors convert a mechanical measurand into an electrical signal involving little power. Reversely actuators convert received electrical power into mechanical work without paying attention to signals. The mechanism designed for fulfilling these two conversions between electrical and mechanical domain is normally very different due to the distant desired functions. Although the above description is true in general, exceptions are found in recent decades that sensors are utilized as actuators in miniaturized devices. Examples include utilizing a piezo-ceramic accelerometers as a shaker. Along the same line, we naturally raise the question - in the larger scale world can actuators, such as induction motors, piezo-ceramic actuators or electromagnetic shakers, be utilized as sensors with reasonable accuracy while delivering power? This talk is to present the concept of actuators' "transduction matrix" as a solution method to address the question. In this talk, the definition and calibration techniques of transduction matrix of actuators will be introduced. A few brand new transducers designed with the "transduction matrix" solution method as the working principle will then be presented. These electro-mechanical transducers excite the measured object and measure force and motion simultaneously. As forces and motions are quantified simultaneously, the transducer can also detect the mechanical impedance of the object at the exciting point. Some of the advantages provided by this new class of transducers in applications are beyond expectation and very useful.
报告人简介:
Professor Ling Shih Fu was educated in Taiwan and the US during 60’s and 70’s. His academic training began with Mechanical Engineering in general and concentrated later more on Mechanical Vibrations, Dynamic Measurement and System Dynamics of Machinery. In 80’s, to gain practical experience he joined local car industry. Started as a vibration and system engineer in car design, he went through jobs in the field of manufacturing and assembly tools of cars, production planning and control, corporate information system and finally got into general management. Professor Ling has worked in Nanyang Technological University since early 90’s. Other than contributing in teaching courses, coaching students and managing school, he has devoted in research works on electro-mechanical transducers, sensors and actuators and in-process monitoring of manufacturing processes. So far he has 7 issued international patents and over 140 published papers in journals and conferences.
