报告内容摘要
A reliable and continuous supply of energy is essential to the health, safety, and welfare of people from all over the world. However, world energy consumption has been increasing each year and shortages of nonrenewable energy resources will threaten energy supply. In addition, inefficient and traditional energy production/consumption leads to increased air pollution. But fortunately, renewable energy is becoming more important since it provides energy security, economic competition, and environmental benefits for the future in addition to reduced reliance on dangerous mines. In this talk, the increased demand on nonrenewable energy and inefficient energy production and consumption will be comprehensively addressed. I will also discuss the renewable and high-efficiency energy, such as hydrogen-fueled combustion engines, fuel cells, solar energy, and wind energy.

报告人简介
Dr. Zhang’s research has focused on development of high-efficiency, sustainable and clean energy systems with micro/nanotechnology, ranging from fundamental understanding to system development of fuel cells, batteries, high-efficiency pulse combustion engines, electrical thrusters, and hybrid energy systems. He has also established a strong expertise in the micro-/nano-scale design, fabrication, and characterization of thermal/fluid, surface, material, optical, and electrical properties, and in the development of advanced spectroscopy. Dr. Zhang has acquired extensive research and teaching experience at several institutions including UTK, Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL), UD, PSU, UCLA, Stanford University, and Nagoya University. Dr. Zhang is the author of over 60 publications, 2 book chapters and 2 patents. Two of his publications earned the “most cited paper” recognition and one of them won the 1st place prize. He also served as Track Chair and Session Chair in International Conferences on Energy Sustainability and Technology, respectively.
