报告一内容摘要:
Regenerative medicine is an interdisciplinary field of research and clinical applications focused on the repair, replacement or regeneration of cells, tissues or organs to restore impaired function resulting from any cause, including congenital defects, disease, trauma and ageing. Regenerative medicine uses a combination of several converging technological approaches, both existing and newly emerging, that moves it beyond traditional transplantation and replacement therapies. Since the first hematopoietic stem cell transplant more than fifty years ago, the potential of stem cells for regenerative medicine has been investigated with some success that translates to the clinical application. This presentation will give a brief overview on the use of stem cell in regenerative medicine, highlighting some of the cases of application, as well as the challenges in advancing stem cell regenerative therapies.
报告二内容摘要:
Cartilage degeneration is the major cause of disability and can be caused by trauma or joint disorders such as osteoarthritis. Because of its avascular nature, cartilage has little capacity to self-regenerate. Conventional treatment for cartilage degeneration relies mostly on surgery, often results in unsatisfactory repair tissues and function. Currently, a wide range of tissue-engineering-based strategies are being investigated as an alternative to the routinely used techniques. The presentation will summarize some of the commonly used procedures to address damaged cartilage of the knee, focusing on the recent advances of cell-based tissue engineering strategies including exploring alternative cell sources and the design of novel 3D scaffolds that incorporates control delivery of growth factors and the provision of biomimetic microenvironment.
