报告内容摘要
    Soil and groundwater pollution has become a big environmental and social problem not only in developing countries, but also in developed countries. In this talk, an overview of soil and groundwater pollution issues in Japan will be provided. Possible remediation technologies together with recent challenges and development will be discussed and illustrated with emphases on viewpoints of reducing the risk to human health, low environmental impacts and low cost. Finally, risk governance associated with soil and groundwater pollution will be discussed and proposed with respect to historical, social and cultural factors of a given country.

报告人简介
    Dr. Ming Zhang is the Leader of Geo-Environmental Risk Research Group at Geological Survey of Japan, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan. He received Ph. D. in Civil Engineering from Kyushu University, Japan, in 1996, and has over 20 years of experience in researches related to mine construction, waste management, including geological disposal of high level radioactive waste, remediation of polluted soil and groundwater, and environmental and epidemiological investigations. He has worked on many funded research projects supported by Japanese Government Agencies and private companies, and has published many articles in Soil and Rock Mechanics, Rock Hydrology, Mass Transport, Environmental Remediation, Risk Assessment and Risk Governance in different scientific journals and peer-reviewed symposium proceedings. He also has experience in editing special issue for the ASCE Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, and the ASCE Journal of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste, and has been serving as an Associated Editor for the latter journal.
