报告内容摘要:
We discovered that in polymer stabilized Cholesteric liquid crystals with negative dielectric anisotropies, the reflection band is significantly broadened when DC voltages are applied. Through systematic studies, we found that polymer network is responsible for the broadening. When DC voltage is applied across the Cholesteric liquid crystal/polymer network system, charges accumulate on the surface of the polymer networks. There is interaction between the charges on the polymer network and the charges on the electrodes, which makes the polymer network moving out of their original positions. The polymer networks impose boundary anchoring on the liquid crystal. The movement of the polymer networks makes the pitch of the cholesteric liquid crystal to change. In one side the cell, the pitch is enlarged, in other side, the pitch is compressed. The electrically induced color tuning is very useful in flat panel display and photonic applications.
