Dr. John P. Lemmon currently serves as a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E). His program focuses include energy conversion and storage systems.

Lemmon is on assignment from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) where he is a Chief Scientist in the Energy Materials Laboratory. At PNNL Lemmon has studied the materials science and electrochemical properties of several battery chemistries including Li,-ion, Li, Na, organic, and capacitor based systems. His focus has been on enabling energy storage for both transportation and grid applications while incorporating techo-economic models to down-select technologies. Lemmon has also developed materials programs in thin film photovoltaics focused on increased performance and cost reduction.

Prior to moving to PNNL Lemmon was a Senior Staff Scientist at General Electric’s Global Research Center and lead singer in the GRC inspired rock band “Global Indecision” for 13 years. At GE-GRC Lemmon played an integral role in developing several combinatorial-based programs including heterogeneous catalysis and materials for energy conversion and storage that has lead to over 30 US granted patents. More recently Lemmon participated in GEs development of energy storage technologies. Dr. Lemmon received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Northern Colorado and his Ph.D. from Oregon State University, where he completed his thesis on materials for lithium ion batteries.
