报告内容摘要

Metamaterials are a new class of ordered composites that exhibit exceptional electromagnetic, optic and mechanical dynamic properties not readily observed in nature. Recently, elastic metamaterials with negative effective properties, such as negative mass density and negative modulus, have received a lot of attention. Various novel applications have been successfully demonstrated, including elastic wave cloaking, efficient vibration and shock wave attenuation, structural health monitoring and elastic wave energy harvesting.

In the talk, a comprehensive study about analytical and numerical modeling will be presented to predict unprecedented effective properties of elastic metamaterials with different microstructures. The elastic metamaterials are further realized through experimental testing. Finally, some promising applications of the elastic metamaterial in dynamic response control will be demonstrated.
