报告内容摘要:
Conventional medical devices, such as stent and bone fixations, are almost permanently implanted in the body after surgery, and it is well-known that this causes risks for developing clinical problems in long-term implantation, e.g. in-stent restenosis and bone stress shielding etc. Biodegradable Mg medical devices, which are completely absorbed into the body within a certain term and are replaced to the body tissue, are expected as less-invasive devices to solve such the clinical problems. The R&D and clinical trials of the Mg medical devices have been progressed in China, EU, and USA, whereas Japan with hard approval system for medical devices was left behind this global R&D trend, just like conventional devices. To break such the current situation in Japan, we have developed the coronary stent and bone implants under the collaboration of medical and engineering sides, taking the advantage of Japanese materials and manufacturing technologies. In this presentation, I show the recent trend on the research and development in Japan on the biodegradable Mg medical devices, such as stent for cardiovascular and digestive system diseases, plate and screw for bone fixation, and staple for anastomosis etc., and also introduce the AIST works to develop such devices.
