报告内容摘要:
Advances in manufacturing and processing technologies in recent years have stimulated renewed interest in magnesium alloys for applications in the automotive, communications, aerospace and biomedical industries. Despite the emergence and the significance of magnesium alloys as a class, their adoption in automotive and aerospace applications remains limited compared to that achieved for aluminium alloys. One of the most important technical reasons is that most economically-viable magnesium alloys have limited formability, yield strength and creep resistance. Currently, it is the accumulated empirical experience that provides the tools for practical design and development of magnesium alloys. Attempts to improve the performance of existing magnesium alloys, and to develop new alloys, are hindered by a lack of understanding of alloy microstructures and microstructural factors that are most important in controlling formability, strength and creep resistance. This presentation will provide an overview of our recent research results on the development of magnesium alloys and characterisation of precipitate microstructures using HAADF-STEM and STEM-EDS. The challenges associated with development of high performance magnesium alloys will also be discussed.
报告人简介:
Jian-Feng Nie received his PhD in 1993 from Monash University. He joined CSIRO Materials Science and Technology in 1994 to work on a national priority project on automotive magnesium alloys. In 1995, he returned to Monash to work on precipitation hardenable aluminium alloys. In 1997, he received a Logan Fellowship from Monash University to resume his interest and research on magnesium alloys. His current research interests include design and development of magnesium alloys for improved mechanical properties and formability, processing-microstructure-property relationships in magnesium alloys, and microstructural characterisation using transmission electron microscopy. He is recipient of AIME Champion H. Mathewson Medal Award (2015) and Marcus A. Grossmann Young Authors Award of ASM International (2006). He is editor of Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, former Chair of Phase Transformations Committee of TMS, and Chair of the National Events Committee of Materials Australia.
