报告内容摘要 (Abstract):

A detonation is a violent, self-sustained combustion-driven wave propagating at a supersonic velocity. Detonation research has been largely driven by its broad range of engineering applications and industrial processes. The development of supersonic propulsion systems requires quantitative understanding of detonation propagation. A good knowledge on detonation characteristics of explosive mixtures are useful to the assessment and mitigation of accidental explosions in chemical or power production facilities. In addition, a detonation wave has also many reproducible dynamic features which can be analyzed to understand the coupling between fluid dynamics and chemical reactions. The objective of this seminar is to cover the fundamentals of gaseous detonation. It aims to provide the current status in our understanding of gaseous detonation phenomenon, to review the basic parameters for the characterization of detonation waves, and to finally discuss the outlook and key problems for gas-phase detonation research.

Hoi Dick Ng, 吳凱廸, is an associate professor at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University in 2005. Prior to joining Concordia, he worked as a NSERC post-doctoral fellow at Princeton University, USA and at the University of Cambridge, UK. He is currently a Tier-II Concordia University Research Chair in applied combustion and fuels, and a fellow of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME). He is a recipient of the Petro-Canada Young Innovators Award, the CSME I.W. Smith Award for outstanding achievement of young engineer in mechanical engineering and two times the Milton van Dyke Award from the APS DFD at the annual Gallery of Fluid Motion. He has been awarded this year the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) for Visiting Scientists. His research lies in the area of chemically reacting and unsteady fluid dynamics, and detonation phenomenon in particular.
