内容简介:

Fiber-metal laminates (FMLs) have attracted much attention because of their successful applications in A380 and Boeing 787 with excellent combined properties from both metals and fiber reinforced plastics. However, to seamlessly integrate these two materials together is a challenge for long-term service. In this talk, Dr Yang will introduce his research on the design and development of two types of FML structures: carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) tubular structure with Ti alloy as liner pipe using innovative filament winding approach, and impact resistant FML flat structure using Vacuum-Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM) method. In these hybrid systems, interfacial issues play a key role for final failure, which are tackled at different levels (i.e. at fiber-matrix, inter-lamina, and metal-composite interfaces) as well as their performances under long-term hygrothermal conditions, which is of great importance. Easy-to-apply surface treatment methods on fiber and metal have been developed to effectively improve the structural performances of these composites systems. The results provide a practical solution to design novel FML and address the interfacial problems of these hybrid composites for aerospace and other industrial applications.
