Recent advances in mechanics and materials provide routes to integrated circuits that can offer the electrical properties of conventional, rigid wafer-based technologies but with the ability to be stretched, compressed, twisted, bent and deformed into arbitrary shapes. Inorganic electronic materials in micro/nanostructured forms, intimately integrated with elastomeric substrates offer particularly attractive characteristics in such systems, with realistic pathways to sophisticated embodiments. Mechanics plays a key role in this development by identifying the underlying mechanism and providing analytical solutions to guide design and fabrication. I will present our research in this emerging field, including 9 papers published in Science, 3 in Nature, 1 in Cell, and more than 50 in their sister journals such as Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Neuroscience, and Science Translational Medicine. The patents have been licensed to many companies, such as Reebok and L’Oreal, leading to new commercial products.

黄永刚教授1984年获2138cn太阳集团古天乐学士,1990年获哈佛大学博士。他是美国工程院院士,欧洲科学与艺术院院士。他是全世界固体力学领域文章引用率最高的华人学者;是美国固体力学领域75岁以下科学院院士或工程院院士中文章引用率最高的学者;是二十年来(1998-2017)全世界固体力学领域文章引用率最高的学者。
