报告内容摘要:

The Stem Cell and Cartilage Group in NUSTEP focuses on the development of cell-based approaches for the regeneration and repair of articular cartilage, with a special interest in articular and physeal cartilage.  In collaboration with local and international multi-disciplinary expertise, we have explored unique approaches in stem cell expansion and differentiation.  On the manipulation of stem cell differentiation, we have explored the effect of various microenvironmental cues provided by biomimetic materials, and stimulation protocol(s) and device(s) to integrate material-mediated factors, for the induction and promotion of chondrogenic differentiation, and the derivation of zonally specific chondrocytes for regeneration of hierarchically-organized cartilage. We have also made headway in the application of stem cell-derived exosome as a cell-free MSC therapy for cartilage regeneration, and targeting anti-inflammation in the restoration of growth after growth plate injury. The presentation will provide an overview of the major projects undertaken in NUSTEP.

报告人简介:

Dr YANG Zheng is a Research Scientist and a Principal Investigator in NUS Tissue Engineering (NUSTEP) Program in National University of Singapore (NUS). She received her Bachelors of Science (Hons.) and PhD in Biochemistry (as a recipient of Australia Overseas Postgraduate Research Scheme Award and Monash Graduate Scholarship) from Monash University, Australia. She started her research career as a Postdoctoral in School of Pathology, University of New South Wales, Australia, and was later recruited as Project Leader in the Joint Disease Program of Prostrakan Pharmaceuticals. She joint NUSTEP in 2005 to further her research in regenerative medicine. As one of the principal Investigator in Cartilage Research Group of NUSTEP, Dr Yang’s research interest is on the investigation and mechanistic understanding of the various microenvironmental cues, and biophysical stimulation, in directing stem cell and chondrocyte cartilage formation, with focus on developing novel translational treatment to enhance cartilage regeneration. Dr Yang research has received funding awards from Australian National Health & Medical Research Committee, A*Star Singapore Stem Cell Consortium, and Singapore National Medical Research Council. She has published 40 peer-reviewed journal papers, and numerous book chapters, and continues to foster active collaborations with both national and international academic institutions.
